Joey Galloway singed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots, making him the number 3 receiver behind Randy Moss and Wes Welker. This is great news for Pats fans because despite Galloway’s age, he is a proven deep threat who can stretch the field and make big plays. Galloway, who is 37, is still one of the fastest players in the NFL and brings veteran leadership along with his talent. The only downside to this pick up is that Galloway has a history of injuries and with his age, that can prove to be a problem. In order for him to be effective, he would have to be healthy all season and continue to be a deep threat, which would be a nightmare for any team’s secondary with him and Moss going deep and Welker running the slot. Hopefully he will come in ready and healthy because with Tom Brady back behind the helm, Galloway will be seeing the ball a lot.
Galloway chose the Patriots over the Steelers, who were also looking at him since he was released by Tampa Bay in free agency, considering New England to be the better candidate for a Super Bowl appearance. With the recent departures of veterans like Vrabel and Larry Izzo and QB Matt Cassel, the Patriots have been signing a lot of big name veterans like Fred Taylor and Galloway to keep the discipline and focus in the locker room. I can only hope that the Patriots can have a season that is not plagued with injuries like they have been for the past few years but I will always put my faith in Bill Belichick and the rest of the NE coaching and front office staff who always find a way to win. Welcome to the team Joey!
